MyTeams

MyTeams was a first-of-its-kind app for NBC Regional Sports, centralizing siloed regional content into a single destination that redefined how fans engaged with their favorite teams. Built for die-hard fans, it delivered extensive team and player coverage, live-game streaming, and interactive features tailored to each user’s favorite teams.

The new app delivered 5.76 page views per visit (+78%), 11.6 monthly visits per unique user (+400%), and an average session time of 12:18 (+158%) compared to the old, siloed apps.

Challenge.

Before MyTeams, NBC ran seven siloed regional apps containing short articles, live streams, and not much else. It was built around how their organization was structured, not the fan. Meanwhile, fans were cobbling together coverage from ten different sources just to keep up.

So we needed to help them turn a national network into something that felt local, personal, and truly fan-first—all in one spot.

Solution.

We flipped the model on its head and built everything around the fan. Personalization let users follow only the teams they cared about—no generic aggregator, just their teams front and center. We introduced ‘Authentic Fan,’ team hubs where fans could connect with each other and enage in gamified content. And we made it comprehensive: from video to editorial, stats to live games, injuries to roster updates—every angle of fan-obsessed coverage in one place.

Results.

The app lasted from 2018-2023 until NBC folded regional coverage into its broader NBC Sports and Peacock platforms. But MyTeams delivered great results for the network, and really showed up for their fans.
